SkinPen® Precision Is The Only Legally Marketed & FDA Cleared Microneedling Device in the US
SkinPen underwent a 3 year evaluation process and met more than 90 requirements, culminating in the first-ever FDA clearance for a microneedling device. All other competing devices are not currently FDA cleared and may pose an increased risk to the patient. SkinPen is designed and engineered for excellence, including validated sterile cartridge with precise depth and straight needles to support the skin’s natural healing process. We appreciate the FDA and SkinPen working together as partners in the interests of patient safety.
SkinPen® Microneedling Denver is one of our most popular treatments for skin rejuvenation. It uses tiny needles to create thousands of microscopic wounds in the skin. The depth of the needles can be precisely controlled, depending on how aggressive you want to be. SkinPen stimulates your skin’s natural ability to repair itself, leading to improvement in wrinkles, texture, scars and other imperfections. Treatment can be performed both on the face and all over the body. Some people say that SkinPen is the "fountain of youth in a pen!"
Q: How does SkinPen work?
A: By creating thousands of tiny wounds in the skin, SkinPen activates the wound healing cascade in the skin. This results in the release of growth factors which promote collagen formation and cell renewal. Some people call this collagen induction therapy (CIT). You will notice smoother skin with improvement in wrinkles, texture, pores, and scars.
Q: How deep does SkinPen penetrate?
A: The depth of the needles can be adjusted up to a maximal depth of 2 mm. This variability allows us to tailor the procedure to your individual skin thickness and degree of skin damage. We recommend a more shallow treatment for skin freshening and a deeper treatment for acne scars or deeper wrinkles.
Q: Is there downtime after a SkinPen treatment?
A: Most of the time, downtime is minimal. There is typically some mild redness and swelling after treatment, which goes away after a day or two. The skin may flake for a few days. We can be more or less aggressive with treatment to match your expectations.
Q: Does SkinPen hurt?
A: We apply a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimize patient discomfort. Some areas such as the upper lip and forehead are more sensitive but most patients find SkinPen treatment to be only mildly uncomfortable.
Q: How many SkinPen treatments are recommended?
A: Although you will see results after just one treatment, most people get best results after a series of 5 treatment sessions. We offer a discounted package for those patients who wish to purchase 5 sessions up front. In some cases, even more improvement is achieved by doing more than 5 treatments sessions.
Q: How does SkinPen differ from laser treatment?
A: There are similarities between SkinPen and Fraxel or fractional lasers. Both types of treatment create micro-wounds in the skin which lead to skin renewal. SkinPen uses tiny needles whereas lasers use a laser beam. Some lasers are more gentle whereas others are more aggressive. Every treatment has tradeoffs in terms of efficacy, cost, discomfort, and downtime. In our hands, we have found SkinPen to be an effective treatment with reasonable cost, mild discomfort, and low downtime.
