As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Ort has advanced training and expertise in medical conditions of the skin. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of acne, rosacea, warts, cysts, moles, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, skin cancer, and malignant melanoma. Dr. Ort is fellowship-trained in dermatologic surgery and frequently performs surgical removal of moles, growths, cysts, and skin cancers.

Dr. Ort specializes in the evaluation of moles to screen for signs of skin cancer. He is a strong believer in the use of dermoscopy which is a non-invasive method to help detect melanoma. Dermoscopy utilizes an illuminated hand-held device to magnify and brighten the appearance of a mole within the skin. With dermoscopy, an experienced dermatologist can more readily detect suspicious changes in a mole and can provide reassurance when a mole shows benign features.

Dr. Ort also specializes in the treatment of warts. We see many patients with persistent warts that have failed treatment at other offices. Treatments that we offer for stubborn warts include pulsed dye laser and intralesional injections of bleomycin. While we can't clear all warts, our advanced techniques are often successful, especially when treatment is repeated over time.

We also offer photodynamic therapy (PDT) for our patients with actinic keratoses or precancers of the skin. This high-tech treatment utilizes a topical medicine called ALA which is applied to the skin for 1-2 hours. We then position the patient in front of a blue light for about 17 minutes. The blue light activates the medicine in the skin and destroys the precancers. PDT is an effective treatment and is usually more tolerable than harsh creams.
