Wrinkles and Aged Skin

Wrinkle Removal

Whether you have wrinkles around your eyes, facial lines around your mouth or an overall change in the texture and tone of your skin, addressing these wrinkles and lines is the easiest way to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance. If specific areas around your eyes or mouth are your concern, targeted treatments such as Botox® or fillers may be the answer. For fine lines and tired skin, treatment with the Affirm fractional laser will provide visible improvement in skin tone and texture with essentially no downtime. If time and sun damage have aged your skin prematurely, Portrait Plasma Resurfacing will restore the smooth and supple skin of your youth.

The point is that there are multiple recommended treatments to eliminate wrinkles. The Doctor and Medical Team will fully assess your individual skin and complexion before determining what treatment is ideally suited to deliver the response you want from treatment.

Premature Aging and Sun Damage

Protect your skin from the sun

Chronic exposure to ultraviolet light causes most of the skin changes that people associate with aging. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day. Look for one of the following ingredients in your sunscreen: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, avobenzone (Parsol 1789), or Mexoryl. Several excellent sunscreens are available for purchase in our office:

  • Ti-Silc® Sheer SPF 45 is our most popular facial sunscreen.
  • Solbar® SPF 38 waterproof sunscreen is an excellent value for the body.

Also use protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses. Limit being outside during peak sun hours, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Do not use tanning beds.

Implement a skin care protocol

Similar to having a plan when you cook, and having a plan to be fit, you must have a plan if you want your skin to look younger. The following products are excellent considerations in your skin care regime and are available for purchase at our office:

  • Renova®, Avage® , or tretinoin - Prescription-strength retinoids, a cornerstone therapy.
  • Skinceuticals® Vitamin C, E & Ferulic serum - Our most popular anti-oxidant product.
  • SkinMedica™ TNS Recovery - With growth factors for skin and collagen renewal.
  • Tri-Luma® or Kojilac-C™ - bleaching creams for treatment of pigmentation or melasma.

Consider non-invasive, in-office treatments

  • IPL photofacials - Light-based treatment for pigmentation, redness and blood vessels.
  • Megapeel® microdermabrasion and chemical peels - Gentle resurfacing with little to no downtime for a more uniform, refreshed and smoother look and feel.
  • Botox Cosmetic® - For dynamic lines such as frown lines (sometimes called "the elevens"), crow's feet, forehead lines and down-turned smile lines. This is our most popular cosmetic treatment.
  • Restylane®, Juvederm™, or Radiesse® - The latest fillers to fill in lines and folds and restore lost volume. Immediate and dramatic yet subtle rejuvenation of the face.
  • Affirm™ fractional laser - A second-generation fractional laser for improvement in skin tone and texture, softening of acne scars and tightening of loose skin.
  • Portrait® plasma skin resurfacing - Achieves dramatic improvement in sun damage, wrinkles and pigmentation. Take years off your appearance with a single treatment
  • Thermage® - Non-invasive tissue tightening for face, neck, and body.

Other Recommendations

  1. Don't smoke or inhale second-hand smoke. Smoking promotes malignancy and generates free radicals that destroy healthy cells and break down collagen.
  2. Choose the best sleeping position. Sleeping on your side or your stomach compresses the facial skin and causes lines to form over time. People who sleep with their faces on the pillow show their age faster than those who sleep on their backs.
  3. Follow a healthy diet. Dark green, leafy vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussel sprouts, etc., as well as fruits such as berries, kiwi, pineapple and melons are good for your skin. You also need an adequate amount of protein, which is extremely important for muscle mass. Consider a good multi-vitamin and a vitamin D supplement for promotion of general and bone health. Drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses a day as water improves the ability of your body to remove toxins.
