Tattoo Removal
Videos
It seemed like such a good idea at the time—that moment when you got your tattoo! Maybe you have outgrown your tattoo or maybe it has faded and blurred to the point of being unrecognizable. The good news is that whatever your reason for wanting your tattoo removed now, there are options available to get rid of that unwanted souvenir.
We use the Medlite C6 Nd:YAG laser, which is a high-powered, cutting-edge laser which is able to generate multiple different wavelengths or colors of light to target different tattoo colors. Typically a series of treatment sessions is needed. Black colors tend to respond the best to laser treatment. In addition, some smaller tattoos can be removed surgically in the office under local anesthesia.
Dr. Ort's specialized expertise in laser treatments and his advanced surgical skills make him the most qualified expert to assess your tattoo and discuss your treatment options.
Warning: Any laser used for tattoo removal can cause serious burns and scarring if used by someone inexperienced with lasers or dermatologic wound care. Dr. Ort strongly encourages you to ask questions when deciding where to have your tattoo removed. The right responses to your questions should ensure that the physician performing tattoo removal is experienced in this procedure and is your best choice.
| Treatment Type | Description | How will it feel? How will I look afterward? | Benefits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medlite™ C6 Q-Switched Nd:Yag Laser | Targeting the tattoo pigment, this laser is absorbed by and disrupts the tattoo pigment. Your body then removes the released pigment. Multiple treatments are almost always required. |
The laser tattoo feels like a rubber band snapping. Topical creams or injected numbing medicine can be used. The tattoo laser does cause some redness and possibly some crusting of the skin immediately after the treatment. |
Safe effective removal of tattoos. Low risk of scarring. |
| Surgical Removal of Tattoos | In some cases, a viable option is to simply remove the tattoo surgically, thereby replacing the tattoo with a thin linear scar. | The removal is a simple surgical procedure. A numbing agent is injected into the site. Sutures will be in place for 7 -10 days. Dr. Ort's expertise in dermasurgery will ensure that any remaining scar will blend in with natural skin lines as much as possible. |
