Rosacea
A century ago, people suffering from rosacea were often thought to be drinkers. Remember W. C. Fields' bulbous nose? His rosacea was exaggerated and difficult to overlook. Since then, we've learned a lot about this mysterious skin condition that can flare up and then subside, causing the nose and/or cheeks to become flushed and ruddy.
Educated studies of rosacea have proven that the condition isn't usuallly caused by excessive drinking. There are many other triggers of rosacea, including heat, cold, and spicy food.
There are different types of rosacea. Some people develop redness and red blood vessels on the face, while others suffer from acne-like breakouts. Several different treatment options exist for rosacea, including topical and oral medication. Laser treatment with pulsed dye laser can usually reduce the redness and blood vessels that occur on the face. Contact your dermatologist if you suspect that you are suffering from rosacea.
