What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal continues to be the most popular laser treatment in Lone Tree, Denver, and the entire US! Dr. Ort trained and worked with the laser experts at Harvard University in the late 1990s who invented laser hair removal. Since then, he has performed thousands of successful laser hair removal treatments. Laser hair removal can be a great choice for anybody who has unwanted dark hair. Some of the most popular treatment areas in women include the armpits, the bikini (including the "Brazilian"), the legs, the chin and upper lip. Men often request treatment of the back, shoulders, or chest.
What type of hair responds best to laser treatment?
Laser hair removal works best for black or brown hair and does not work well for white or blond hair. This is because the laser energy must be absorbed by the hair in order to heat and damage the hair follicle. A dark hair has pigment to absorb the laser, whereas a white hair lacks the necessary pigment. This is analogous to a dark car getting hot in the sun, while a white car stays much cooler because it does not absorb the sun's rays.
What lasers do you use?
Most of our treatments are performed by our licensed aesthetician Sheila Marquardt, who has almost twenty years experience with laser hair removal. We utilize the LightSheer laser (810 nm) for most of our treatments. This laser is considered the gold standard for hair removal by many experts. It features an ice-cold sapphire tip which is applied to the skin to make treatment more comfortable. We also utilize the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) to provide safe and effective treatment for our patients with darker or tanned skin. For those people with very fair skin, our BBL device can provide the shorter wavelengths necessary to effectively target light brown hair.
What should I expect?
Most people will do best with a series of at least five laser treatments, spaced out about every four weeks. With every subsequent laser treatment, there is typically less hair regrowth. Any hairs that remain after laser treatment often become finer and lighter in color. It is important not to pluck or wax for at least a month prior to laser treatment, so that the laser beam can target the hair under the skin. It is acceptable to shave or to bleach the hair prior to laser treatment. We strongly recommend that patients avoid getting tan prior to any laser treatment. Some people will benefit from a touch-up treatment done once or twice a year to keep any hair regrowth to a minimum.
Why wait any longer?
Laser hair removal is without a doubt the best way to permanently reduce hair growth. Is it finally time to throw out the razors and experience the silky, smooth skin that you and your loved one have always wanted?
