May 19, 2009 – 2:46 pm - Q-switched alexandrite laser now available!

We are proud to announce that we have recently added the Q-switched alexandrite laser to our practice.  This high-powered laser is a great treatment for brown sun spots on the face or body, as well as certain brown birthmarks.  This laser also expands our ability to treat tattoos, most notably green tattoos.  Green is usually resistant to treatment with other lasers, but the alexandrite laser works well for green.  Together with our Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, we can now effectively treat almost all tattoo colors.  We are one of the few practices in Colorado and indeed in the entire country to offer Q-switched alexandrite laser!

April 24, 2009 – 10:24 am - How do I Know if a Filler is Right for Me?

As we age, we lose volume in our faces, resulting in flat cheeks, hollows under our eyes, and sagging of jowls. We develop wrinkles around our eyes and mouth, as well as deepening of the nasolabial folds (parentheses lines) and marionette lines (downturned smile). Fillers are injected into the skin to “fill” areas such as wrinkles, folds, hollows, or scars to restore the skin to a smoother, more youthful contour. Fillers can also be used to augment areas such as the cheeks or lips. The world of fillers has blossomed in recent years and there is now a wide choice of fillers to choose from. Factors to consider when choosing a filler include; the expected duration of results, number of syringes required for full correction, number of sessions required, cost, and the skill and experience of the injector. Fillers are very technique sensitive and your final cosmetic result is highly dependent on who is injecting the product into your skin.

March 26, 2009 – 8:54 am - Medspas vs. Dermatologists. What’s the Difference?

You may be wondering- should you go to a medspa or a dermatologist for your skin or laser treatment?  Medspas may offer a relaxing environment, but this should not be your focus.  Rather, you should think about who you would trust to treat you or a loved one.  Who will be firing that powerful laser at your skin?  Who will be sticking that needle into your skin?  Who will be available to treat you if there is a complication?  Many medspas have a “medical director” who lacks dermatology training and who is not even physically on-site. Dermatologists are the true experts in both skin health and disease.  We take pride in offering state-of-the art laser treatments in a closely supervised, professional environment.  And our number one priority is patient safety.  We take the Hippocratic Oath to heart- first do no harm!

January 16, 2009 – 10:39 am - Colorado’s Leader in Laser Technology

We are excited about two new lasers that we have recently added:  AffirmCO2 fractional laser and Q-switched alexandrite laser. AffirmCO2 laser represents a dramatic breakthrough in laser skin resurfacing, delivering “DOTS” of laser energy to stimulate new collagen, smooth wrinkles and scars, and tighten the skin.  Q-switched alexandrite laser expands our capability to treat tattoos, as this laser effectively treats GREEN colors.  In combination with our Medlite YAG laser, we can now target ALL TATTOO COLORS.  Dermatology and Laser Institute has the broadest selection of lasers of any practice in Colorado, which means that we can choose the right laser for a particular indication every time.

January 15, 2009 – 1:00 pm - Breakthrough Treatment for Skin Rejuvenation and Resurfacing

From the hills of Italy comes the latest technology in skin rejuvenation- the Affirm CO2 laser! (also known as SmartXide DOT). We are excited to be the first dermatology practice in Denver to have this new fractional laser. CO2 lasers have always been considered the “gold standard” for skin resurfacing. AffirmCO2 fractional laser delivers the benefits of CO2 laser without the long downtime and risks of older technology. Fractional CO2 laser is considered the biggest laser breakthrough in the last ten years. Results are much more dramatic than Fraxel laser. Tell us how much downtime you can tolerate- whether it is 1 day, 3 days, or 5 days- and we will choose the right settings for you. You will love the look and feel of your skin after treatment with AffirmCO2. Give us an hour and we’ll give you ten years!

December 4, 2008 – 11:13 am - I’m embarrassed by my tattoo- how do I get rid of it?

Tattoos have become extremely popular as a way for people to express themselves.  Unfortunately, we see many people who regret their decision to get a tattoo.  Often, the regret starts soon after the tattoo was placed.  For others, the tattoo serves as a reminder from a distant part of their life that they would rather forget.  So you are certainly not alone in wanting to get your tattoo removed.

We offer a non-judgmental, discreet approach to every patient.  Prior to treatment, we counsel patients in detail about the tattoo removal process.  We offer the Medlite C6 laser, a high-powered, state of the art laser.  Some colors (especially black) respond better than others to laser treatment.  Multiple treatment sessions are required, but those committed to getting rid of their tattoo can achieve outstanding results with minimal scarring.  Another option for smaller tattoos is to simply cut out the tattoo, which gets rid of the entire tattoo at once and leaves a surgical scar.  A final option for some people is to over-tattoo the tattoo with a new tattoo.  Laser treatment can make this easier, since the lighter the tattoo, the easier it will be to cover with a new tattoo.

October 15, 2008 – 3:37 pm - Testimonial: Scars on the face, whether from acne, chicken pox, or other injury, cause a great deal of anxiety and distress for many people

“It is of my own accord and with great pleasure that I write this recommendation letter for Dr. Richard Ort. I was very much impressed and pleased with the professionalism and skill that Dr. Ort handled my needs at the Dermatology & Laser Institute.”

“I had a small, circular scar on my forehead from chicken pox as a child. I looked into removing it, as I give many public presentations. In my initial evaluation, Dr. Ort took great care with me, and answered all of my questions (which I had many of), even some questions that I asked multiple times. I realized that any surgical procedure (of any size, even as small and non-invasive as mine) takes the professionalism, technique, and skill of the doctor. This couldn’t be truer of Dr. Ort. He made me feel comfortable on the day of my procedure and performed it with great skill. I am very much pleased with the results.”

Sincerely, Paul
