November 10, 2011 – 5:05 pm - XEOMIN- New Botox Alternative!

We are among the first in Denver, Colorado to offer Xeomin for treatment of wrinkles.  This new Botox alternative is now FDA-approved as the latest wrinkle fighter!  Studies have shown equivalent results between Botox and Xeomin.  Only a select few, top-tier offices have been chosen to offer Xeomin before its official release.  Best of all, we are offering special pricing while supplies last!  If you are thinking about trying Botox, now may be the perfect time to try Xeomin at a fraction of the cost of Botox!

August 19, 2011 – 4:42 pm - Facial Veins and Redness

Many people suffer from unsightly veins and redness of the face.  This may be inherited or may be a manifestation of rosacea.  Unfortunately, there is a common assumption that this problem is due to excessive alcohol consumption.    The good news is that this can be effectively treated with lasers.  Usually we start with the Iridex laser and the results are nothing short of miraculous as the veins disappear in front of our eyes!  For diffuse facial redness, we generally recommend the BBL or pulsed dye laser, which provide full face coverage.  If you or a loved one suffer from excessive facial veins or redness, you should know that effective treatment is available, is safe, and has little to no downtime.  For laser treatment in Denver, we continue to shine as the center of excellence.

June 24, 2011 – 3:50 pm - New Sunscreen Guidelines

Good news!  The FDA is mandating changes to how sunscreens are labeled and advertised, which will help to clarify which sunscreens provide the best protection against skin cancer and skin aging.  The new rules will go into effect next summer.  In the meantime, you should read sunscreen labels carefully to ensure that you are getting maximal protection.  It is important to protect against both UVA and UVB.  SPF is a measure of UVB protection; choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher (there is minimal benefit going higher than SPF 50).  For UVA protection, make sure that your sunscreen has one of the following ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or avobenzone.  Zinc oxide is our favorite sunscreen ingredient as it is a non-chemical, physical blocker with the broadest-spectrum coverage.   We have several sunscreens available for purchase in the office which offer both superior sun protection and cosmetic elegance.

April 18, 2011 – 10:57 am - Botox is Best

Botox continues to be one of the mainstays of our dermatology practice in Denver.  Nothing else compares to Botox in terms of great results, no downtime, and ease of treatment.  However, we continue to see patients who would benefit greatly from Botox, but who have questions about its safety.  We have been using Botox for over ten years, having done tens of thousands of treatments, and have NEVER had a serious side effect.  This is what Dr. Ort recently said about Botox: “I have complete confidence in the safety of Botox.  I often administer Botox to close friends and family members, who all LOVE the results and are quick to let me know when it is time for their next treatment.  In my hands, Botox is truly the perfect treatment:  safe, effective, non-invasive, and with an extremely high patient satisfaction rate.”

March 30, 2011 – 4:48 pm - Tattoo Removal

When it comes to tattoo removal, no one can compare to our practice.  Dr. Ort has been treating tattoos since his days at Harvard in the 1990s.   High-powered, Q-switched lasers can effectively remove many tattoos, but no single laser can remove all tattoo colors.  While most competitors have just one laser, we offer THREE lasers for tattoo removal:  the 1064 nm YAG laser for black and blue tattoos, the 532 nm YAG laser for red and orange tattoos, and the 755 nm alexandrite laser for black, blue and green tattoos.   We also surgically remove tattoos for those individuals who want their tattoo removed in one sitting and don’t mind trading it for a surgical scar.  If you have a tattoo that you want to get rid of, for whatever reason, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Ort to see what his advanced skills can do for you

March 9, 2011 – 5:39 pm - DOT Laser Resurfacing

The most exciting topic in skin aesthetics continues to be DOT CO2 laser skin resurfacing.  This is not your mother’s laser treatment.  This is the most advanced, cutting-edge laser available, offering exquisite precision, stunning results, and minimal downtime.   One treatment can remove ten years worth of wrinkles and sun damage from your skin!   Dr. Ort is an expert in the use of lasers, having earned his laser credentials at Harvard University.  Let him use his advanced laser skills to take years off your appearance.  Think about it- would you really trust your face to anyone else?

October 18, 2010 – 4:12 pm - Tanning Beds and Melanoma

New research has found that indoor tanning triples or even quadruples the risk of developing malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. In a recent study, indoor tanners had a 74% increased risk for melanoma compared to people who had never used a tanning bed. Melanoma risk increased with greater tanning bed exposure, as measured by total hours of indoor tanning, the number of individual sessions, or years of exposure. There are more than 50,000 tanning salons in the US and an average of 1 million people use tanning beds every day. Most of the people using tanning beds are young women and melanoma rates in young women have risen by 50%. Sadly, we will likely continue to see increasing numbers of patients being diagnosed with this deadly cancer.

April 29, 2010 – 4:00 pm - SmartSkin™ CO2 (DOT) Laser

After more than a year of performing fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, we continue to be blown away by the results.  Results are simply stunning.   Patients keep returning, asking us to treat all over their body, including the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.  This is an ideal treatment for sun damage, brown spots, wrinkles, loose crepey skin, and acne scars.   Imagine what your skin was like five or ten years ago.  Give us a week (or less) and you too can turn back the clock.  Best of all, unlike the old days of aggressive CO2 laser treatment, and, unlike other offices, we have yet to see a significant complication.  This speaks to both the enhanced safety of fractional resurfacing, as well as Dr. Ort’s training and expertise in lasers.   Dr. Ort is the only physician in the state to have done a dedicated one-year laser fellowship (Harvard University, 1998).   We invite you to experience true skin rejuvenation with fractional CO2 laser resurfacing performed exclusively by Dr. Ort

March 12, 2010 – 5:06 pm - Physician (Dis)Honesty

Do you know that there are doctors promoting themselves as dermatologists who are not formally trained in dermatology?  Yes, there are numerous family doctors, ER doctors, gynecologists, and others passing themselves off as dermatologists to unsuspecting patients.  Unfortunately, many doctors have decided to jump on the cosmetic bandwagon and try to make a quick buck.   And there are very few laws to prevent this type of deception.  IT IS TRULY THE WILD WEST OUT THERE.  That means that you as a consumer need to protect yourself by researching the background of your physician.   Ask any prospective dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon the following question:  In what specialty did you do your residency training?  In what specialty are you board-certified?  You may be surprised by what you discover.  Don’t take chances.  Make sure that your “dermatologist” is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
